Dieting is very popular in today’s generation. Many teenagers and adults, at some point in their lives, have tried it. Some are successful but most are not. Why? Those who have successful diet control went into their regimen with open minds and did not do it for just a short period of time. They have followed up their programs and maintained them regularly. Those who fail are usually those who embraced the fast weight loss programs and, as many have found out, it doesn’t work in the long term.
Because people are naturally vain, the pursuit to be more beautiful, to be more skinny, to be more sexy than they already are, is never ending. People who are already skinny and sexy, need not lose more weight. They don’t need to gain either. All they have to do is maintain their healthy weight and shape by regular exercise and balanced diet.
Those who are literally overweight must also try to find ways to get in shape. They must look at themselves more closely and assess their personal strengths. Can they afford to go into a diet? Can they discipline themselves and follow a regular routine to lose the needed weight? As honestly as they can, they must evaluate themselves first and they must instil in their minds that they are doing this not just to be sexy or slim, but more importantly to prevent the development of lifestyle diseases that are becoming more common in the present generation.
If they can’t do this, they may find themselves trying some fad diet or enrolling impulsively on programs that promote and promises fast weight loss to everyone. This kind of dieting doesn’t work for many people. Some of these programs are not even healthy to the body. There are many kinds of fad diets that are not good for the body. To mention a few, these are the programs that promote fasting and not eating a balanced diet.
The body cannot fast for long periods of time. Sure enough, the pounds would be shed but the over all performance of daily activities would suffer. Malnutrition would ensue promoting slow physical and mental functioning. And if not caught, the development of disease is not far from happening. Continued fasting would also promote binge eating from time to time as the body asks for sustenance. Water alone is not healthy. The all protein diet is also not healthy. The body needs carbohydrates and vegetables and fruits to remain in optimum health. So the lack of other food groups in the diet can also promote malnutrition and the development of illness.
Everyone should be aware that fast weight loss programs usually don’t work. In order to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight, a plan should be enforced along with a conscious commitment to work the chosen plan. A healthy body is not a temporary goal to be forgotten once the right weight and the perfect shape were seen, but is a lifetime endeavor that must be kept and maintained regularly and religiously.
